Ocean Shores, WA Vacation

This year for our family vacation we took the kids to the WA coast to see the ocean. Brrrr, it was cold! It was overcast and low 60's the whole time, rained on us most of the time, but we still enjoyed adventuring!

We rented a BNB so I could cook all of our meals which we picnicked most of the time. The first day was spent on the beach flying kites, swimming, building sandcastles, metal detecting, collecting seashells, walking the shore, and enjoying the down time. The second day we spent in the neighboring fishing town touring the lighthouse and maritime museum, walked out on the jetty, watched the surfers, found lots of sand dollars, and made creations out of driftwood. The third day we rented mopeds and rode around town together. Lance and I each had a kid on the back of our mopeds and Kimball rode an e-bike. It was lots of fun until the icy rain pelted us in the face. The rest of the day we played on the beach some more.

On the drive home we stopped at the state capital in Olympia to use the bathroom and roam around this beautifully ornate building. We even got to see a wedding.

I can't wait to blackmail Kimball with this picture one day.
Lots of dead crabs washed up on shore. We took a few crab shells home but they're so brittle that they just crumbled.

The one thing I forgot to pack was swimsuits! In my defense, we'd gone swimming the day before we left and they got left in the dryer. The boys didn't mind swimming in their underwear until the saltwater really chaffed their thighs. The beach is shallow for a long way out there, Kimball even swam with a sea lion! We did not see any dolphins or whales.

We found big foot!

Ezra is so athletic, he loved walking on his hands on the shore.

Kimball touched Big Foot's butt!

Washing sand out of all the nooks and crannies.

We came across two dead jellyfish.

Whale bones

This is the view from the lighthouse. Yes, the lighthouse used to be on the shore, this picture shows how much of the water has receded since it was built over 100 years ago.

One night we ate out and I looked over at Cora and was suddenly struck with how old she looked. It was probably a combination of her hoodie and beanie, but she was slouching and had the attitude of a teenager.

"Mom, the waves are THIS big!"
